If you haven’t heard of 2:22 A Ghost Story, then where have you been? There has been so much buzz around this play, partially due to its constantly changing cast, including Lily Allen and Sophia Bush. Now it arrives at the Alexandra Theatre Birmingham.
This is a spoiler-free review, so there are many things that I can't and will not share, because I believe that it is more enjoyable to experience them first-hand.
Written by Danny Robins, creator of the hit BBC podcasts Uncanny and The Battersea Poltergeist. This supernatural thriller stars Jay McGuiness (The Wanted, BIG! The Musical, Rip It Up), Fiona Wade (Emmerdale, Silent Witness), George Rainsford (Call the Midwife, Casualty) and Vera Chok (Hollyoaks, Cobra).
Directed by Matthew Dunster and Isabel Marr they embrace the contemporary notes of this play and bring this play to the stage with a sense of realism. Anna Fleischle’s stunning set design brings detail and scale to the living room/kitchen, making the audience feel they are watching through a window into someone’s actual house. Lucy Carter’s lighting design complements the set design by bringing the suited lighting for the interior and the atmospheric design for the property's exterior. The production scale continues in Cindy Lin’s stylish costume design, which shows that the play is set now, utilising current fashion trends.
