Everybody’s Talking About Jamie - Review

Everybody’s Talking About Jamie returns to The Grand Theatre Wolverhampton!

Following a record-breaking three-year West End residency, sold-out UK & Ireland Tour and Amazon studios award-winning film, the smash-hit and critically acclaimed winner of Best New Musical is back to entertain.

The musical follows the life of Jamie New, who is 16 and lives on a council estate in Sheffield. Jamie doesn’t quite fit in and is terrified about the future but will be a sensation. Supported by his loving mum and surrounded by his friends, Jamie overcomes prejudice, beats the bullies, and comes out of the darkness and into the spotlight.

This production features an all-star cast with musical theatre star Rebecca McKinnis as Margaret, her rendition of ‘He’s my Boy’ was emotional and gut wrenching, her ability to tell a story through song is astounding. Shobna Gulati as Ray is such a versatile performer, and as Jamie says “She’s twice the man he’ll ever be.” Everybody’s Talking About Jamie veteran Talia Palamathanan as Pritti is fabulous and fierce. Queen of the Jungle Giovanna Fletcher stars as Miss Hedge and EastEnders legend John Partridge as Hugo/Loco Chanelle. For this performance the role of Jamie was played by Finton Flynn and he was fabulous, a star in the making.

Set to an incredibly original score of catchy pop tunes led by singer-songwriter of The Feeling, Dan Gillespie Sells and Writer Tom MacRae. Choreographed by Sadler Wells Associate Artist Kate Prince. This is a coming-of-age musical that will have everyone talking about Jamie for years to come.

This is a production that not only focuses on Jamie but everyone else around him. It's heart-warming and witty. It celebrates everyone’s individualities and reminds us all to be a little kinder. This is a musical that has an important message at its core.
