Here and Now musical - Review

Get ready to feel the beat with HERE & NOW, the brand-new, hilarious, and heartwarming musical packed with the iconic songs of pop phenomenon Steps.

Don’t miss the world premiere of this lively celebration of love and friendship, debuting at Birmingham’s Alexandra Theatre before heading to the West End!

Step into Better Best Bargains, a bustling seaside superstore where the energy is electric, and Friday nights mean dancing in the aisles. But when Caz uncovers secrets hidden on the shelves, the summer of love she and her friends dreamed of turns stormy. Has their chance at “happily ever after” slipped away? Or is there another twist waiting in the wings?

Directed by the award-winning Rachel Kavanaugh (Half a Sixpence, The Great British Bake Off Musical) and written by Shaun Kitchener (Hollyoaks), HERE & NOW is bursting with Steps’ greatest hits, including “5, 6, 7, 8,” “Better Best Forgotten,” and “Last Thing on My Mind.”

Produced by Steps, ROYO, and pop legend Pete Waterman, this musical promises fresh energy and pure joy.

The cast includes Rebecca Lock (Elf: The Musical, MAMMA MIA!), Hiba Elchikhe (Everybody’s Talking About Jamie), Sharlene Hector (vocalist for Basement Jaxx, Dreamgirls), and Blake Patrick Anderson (Be More Chill). They were a terrific cast but I must say that Rebecca Lock as the lead Caz was incredible, her vocal performances were off the charts she was able to sing well-known songs but bring her own spin to them.

This was an epic night and it was great to see so many stars in the audience of the world premiere of this new musical. What was even more exciting was to see Steps come on stage and sing with the cast at the end of the show.

Book your tickets now—missing this show would be a total tragedy!

Here & Now is showing at the Alexandra Theatre Birmingham until Saturday, 30 November 2024. Tickets are available here.
