Trinity Players present Shrek

The Trinity Players are known for their outstanding performances, and this time they are bringing us the hilarious and heartwarming "Shrek the Musical." This award-winning amateur theatre society from Sutton Coldfield has been delighting audiences for nearly 50 years, and their upcoming show promises to be another hit. Initially formed in 1975 they have grown to become a thriving group that puts on three shows each year. They begin with their musical in the spring, followed by a play in late summer/early autumn and a musical concert around Christmas.

'Shrek - The Musical', is a side-splitting stage extravaganza! So, get ready to laugh your socks off as they tell the tale of the beloved, green ogre from the Oscar-winning, smash hit movie of the same name.

This is a family-friendly show that will have you laughing and singing along, making it a great way to spend quality time with your loved ones, proving that true beauty lies in the eye of the ogre. It’s lovely to see such a brilliant group come together to put on this show. It’s clear that they have worked hard on this production. My only note would be that Sutton Coldfield Town Hall is a big space to fill so be aware to ensure the performance fills the space and engages all the audience.

Based on the DreamWorks Animation Motion Picture and the book by William Steig, with book and Lyrics by David Lindsay-Abaire, and music By Jeanine Tesori. Originally produced on Broadway by DreamWorks Theatricals and Neal Street Productions, the original production was Directed by Jason Moore and Rob Ashford.

I really enjoyed this production and thought the cast was fantastic. For me particular mentions must go to Ravin Thakrar as Donkey, who bought an eccentric humour to the role, my favourite line being “cause I am like a GPS with fur”. Sami Kelly-Griggs as Dragon was brilliant they had such an incredible vocal range and characterisation. And I must mention Dan McCloskey as Lord Farquaad, who is the entertaining and performance the whole production on his knees which shows true commitment to the role.

With a rich history of putting on high-quality shows, the Trinity Players have performed classic musicals such as 'Anything Goes', 'Oliver', 'Me and My Girl', 'Crazy For You', 'Little Shop of Horrors', 'Chess', 'Sweet Charity', 'Beauty and the Beast', 'Hello Dolly', 'Top Hat', West Side Story' and many more. Shrek the Musical is sure to be another success they can add to their accolades!

So, whether you’re five or ninety-five, there’s so much to enjoy about Shrek the Musical. This production is on until Saturday 8th June, tickets are available here. Don't miss out on this fantastic opportunity to be entertained by the talented Trinity Players!
