Bonnie and Clyde - Review

Are you ready to raise a little hell? Bonnie and Clyde have arrived at The Wolverhampton Grand.

This is the story of two small-town kids from the middle of nowhere who became the biggest folk heroes in all of America. They craved adventure—and each other. It follows their follies from initially low-level criminal activity to much more severity.

This show boasts many accolades including Winner of Best New Musical at the WhatsOnStage Awards 2023. I definitely believe this will be a show that stands the test of time.

This production stars Catherine Tyldesley (Coronation Street, Strictly Come Dancing) as Blanche, Alex James Hatton (Newsies, Heathers) and Katie Tonkinson (Bat Out of Hell) as the notorious lovers, joined by Sam Ferriday (The Cher Show) as Buck, with Jaz Ellington (The Voice) as The Preacher. Nate Landskroner (Waitress, Heathers) will play the role of Clyde at all matinee performances, with Hana Ichijo playing the role of Bonnie on Saturday matinees. This is such an incredible cast who have really mastered the American accent. The performances of the musical numbers are brilliant and they remain in character throughout.

I would go and see this show again, that’s how good it was! From the gorgeous set that made use of technology to create a more immersive experience to the detailed costumes giving a nod to the era. This is a delicious musical that you simply can’t get enough of. This is a production that has been cleverly crafted and carefully considered with every attention to detailed considered. Transitions between scenes are seamless and the musical numbers weave in throughout so effortlessly.

So, whilst it is not technically a crime to miss this show, you may be robbing yourself of some moments of brilliance if you don't see it.

Bonnie and Clyde is on at the Wolverhampton Grand until Saturday 9th March 2024. Tickets are available at the following link https://www.grandtheatre.co.uk/whats-on/bonnie-clyde/
