Snow White Panto - Review

Mirror, Mirror, on the wall, can only mean that the Snow White pantomime has arrived at The Grand Theatre Wolverhampton.

Panto season is upon us, one of my favourite times of the year. For me, pantomimes are an iconic part of the British institution. What's more, whether a lavish professional performance or a hammy local amateur dramatic production, all pantomimes are well attended and always lots of fun. I love everything about pantomime, the audience participation, the different character tropes, the frivolous costumes, and of course, all the jokes (for children and adults alike).
Snow White is a classic pantomime story. After consulting her magical mirror, The Wicked Queen learns that her beautiful stepdaughter, Snow White, is now the “fairest in the land.” Exiled into the dangerous forest by her wicked stepmother, a princess is rescued by seven dwarf miners who make her part of their household. As events unfold Snow White encounters many people along the way, including a handsome prince…

This ultimate festive family spectacular stars Kelle Bryan (Eternal, Hollyoaks, Loose Women) as the Good Fairy Elementa, with Gyasi Sheppy (CBeebies) as our dashing Prince and Niki Colwell Evans (X Factor, Blood Brothers, Kinky Boots) returns, but this time…she’s WICKED! They join Evie Pickerill (CBeebies) as Snow White, Tam Ryan as Muddles & Ian Adams as Nanny Nolly.

Wolverhampton Grand has produced this year’s panto in-house in its entirety, with this production written and produced by the theatre team - their first homegrown festive production. A huge well done to all the team involved in this impressive achievement. The production has set and costume design by David Sheilds with musical direction by Adrian Jackson, direction by David Janson and choreography by Natalie Bennyworth with skating choreography from the legendary Robin Cousins MBE. It was written by Ian Adams and Tam Ryan.

A huge congratulations to the whole team involved. This pantomime was a triumph! The production team led by Karl Steele, the musical director Adrian Jackson, costume, set and make-up all worked their panto magic.

So, take a big bite of panto delight with spectacular scenery and costumes, magical special effects, wicked humour, and plenty of audience participation! SNOW WHITE promises to be a festive spectacular for all ages.

Snow White is on at the Grand Theatre Wolverhampton until Sunday 7th January 2024. Tickets are available at the following link https://www.grandtheatre.co.uk/whats-on/snow-white/
